With so many acne products in the market, it can become very confusing when you're trying to buy one over the counter. If only someone could just point to one and tell you that's the number one acne product. Unfortunately, what's best for someone else may not be best for you due to the differences in everyone of us.
On the other hand, there are a couple of active components in most acne products that are almost always useful to clear up the acne trouble. You probably won't be familiar with the products I'll be mentioning, because they are not brand name per se. Rather you should be looking at the label to see if a particular merchandise contains these as active ingredients. Which commercial acne product you finally choose is entire up to you..
1. Benzoyl Peroxide
"Are you kidding me? This is the number one acne product? How come nobody I know ever heard about it?" I don't blame you for your reaction, but please relax. Although it isn't a common substance recognized by consumers like us, it is a pretty typical treatment for acne. Practically every over-the-counter acne products you can lay your hands on contain certain amount of benzoyl peroxide, which, by the way, can be described as a peeling agent.
What benzoyl peroxide does is it cleans the pores and helps to kill the bacteria. It is shown to be effective so long as the acne outbreak isn't severe. If it isn't a proven product, why do you think Proactiv have it in most, if not all, of their acne products? The well-established online Acne.org uses benzoyl peroxide as its main acne fighting plan too.
Generally, benzoyl peroxide comes in a cream form of 2.5% dosage though 5% and 10% creams are fairly easy to find as well. Stick to the 2.5%. It is good enough in many instances. It does need a bit of getting used to as it often dries up and irritates the skin. You'll just have to bear with it if you want to get rid of any mild to moderate acne. Benzoyl peroxide will surely help if not totally remedy the problem. All you have to do is to apply it once every morning, or any other fixed time daily, for a minimum of two weeks.
2. Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid is a substance which works very much like benzoyl peroxide. There isn't a lot to add on other than it isn't as strong. In case benzoyl peroxide irritates your skin too much, try this compound in its place. Once again, you won't find salicylic acid in any recognizable product names at the local drugstore or supermarket. You have to check the label to determine whether it is included. Since it is a favorite substitute of benzoyl peroxide, you are bound to discover many acne ointments listing salicylic acidity as an active component.
There you have it: two number one acne products. Or, to put it more accurately, two number one acne chemicals that work. If they don't, why else would 90% of the commercial acne products incorporate them?
